Here's the information that I've extracted from gnome-icon-theme tarball, as distributed by the GNOME project, about copyright holders of the icons. ​ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sources/gnome-icon-theme/2.18/gnome-icon-theme-2.18.0.tar.bz2 (AUTHORS)

The year is taken from the tarball date and might not be exact.

It would be nice if the above text is added to share/icons/gnome218/README.txt. That would make downstream's life easier.
