Here's what pod2man complains:

           You can't have =items (as at line 557) unless the first
           thing after the =over is an =item

I am not sure if pod2man is right or the Debian one is buggy, so not committing the obvious patch (attached).

I've got the same result running pod2man on FreeBSD.
