developer garbage on STDOUT

Reported by: daxim Owned by: submersible_toaster
Priority: trivial Milestone:
Component: editor Version: trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

Running padre from a terminal spews all sorts of unsolicited and uninteresting information. Example:

Perldoc (Pod::Perldoc::ToPod) output saved to /tmp/e6zucLTVBX
Perldoc (Pod::Perldoc::ToPod) output saved to /tmp/zkGnJW7UJM
Perldoc (Pod::Perldoc::ToPod) output saved to /tmp/6CmhW2PMAX
Perldoc (Pod::Perldoc::ToPod) output saved to /tmp/4koKTBFhYt
Perldoc (Pod::Perldoc::ToPod) output saved to /tmp/xnGxhOG3f4
Perldoc (Pod::Perldoc::ToPod) output saved to /tmp/_61jJitGkr
Scalars leaked: 1

This violates the Rule of Silence. If you think this information is necessary to keep, log it in a file where it can be accessed on demand.

I do agree that the Perldoc thingy is really annoying. Just tell me what the heck is a Rule of Silence?

use Padre::Util::debug() instead of the debugging printouts and turn it on/of in the Padre Developer Tools.

in this case - 'try to reach into Pod::Perldoc' and stop it writing those tempfiles or squash STDERR while it is running.

There is a special ticket for "scalars leaked", #204, so I close this one as fixed.
