Research::Casan

This page stores my ideas and thoughts and other stuff related to my use of Padre.
I will be commenting on releases and connect wishes/comments to tickets when possible.
I will be making comments on: Padre, Rakudo, Parrot, Mod_parrot, DBDI, git, MySQL/PostgreSQL, FreeBSD
which is the toolchain I will keep an eye on, helping me to build web applications in perl6.

PADRE on Windows Vista

padre-Standalone-5.10.0-alpha-1.exe released: 2009.01.18
http://use.perl.org/~Alias/journal/38312?from=rss
. Installed on Windows Vista
. Created a shortcut C:\padre\perl\bin\wperl.exe c:\padre\perl\bin\padre (with start in: c:\padre\perl\bin)
+ editor works
! editors launcher wperl.exe crashes with a "stopped working" message, when closed
? wish the padre-standalone came with parrot
? wish the padre-standalone could be installed anywhere, eg. on a usb device.
! uninstall works, but it does not remove c:\padre\cpan\histfile
? wish there is an easy possibly integrated update mechanism

strawberry-perl-5.10.0.3-portable-beta-1-padre-0.25_2.zip released: 2009.01.16
http://www.szabgab.com/blog/2009/01/1231761972.html
http://padre.perlide.org/wiki/PortableStrawberry
. Installed on Windows Vista
. Created a shortcut C:\portable\perl\bin\portablepadre.bat (with start in: c:\padre\perl\bin)
+ editor works
+ comes with parrot 0.8.2
? wish the console window temporarily necessary for starting padre will die soon
? wish the padre-standalone could be installed anywhere, eg. on a usb device.
+ uninstalls easily, simply delete the c:\portable directory
? wish there is an easy possibly integrated update mechanism
! use v6; in file is not enough to have status bare reflect: application/x-perl6 mime
+ files saved with .p6 extension is recognized in the status bare with : application/x-perl6 mime
! RUN F5 does not have an execution mode defined for files with .p6 extention
+ RUN ctrl-F5 c:\portable\parrot\parrot.exe c:\portable\parrot\languages\perl6\perl6.pbc c:\lab\p6p6ext.p6 runs perl6 code
? wish F5 would autorecognize perl6 code and run it with the proper interpreter
